Government Small Business Grant
A government small business grant will more than likely be filtered through the Small Business
Administration. The Small Business Administration is the agency that is responsible for
helping small businesses across the
United States succeeds. They provide a wealth of information and also offer grants.
The competition is fierce when it comes to getting grants from the government.
There are many small businesses through out the US that would like to be able to get their piece of the pie. There are a few steps a small
business owner can take that will increase their chances of making the cut and getting a government small business grant.
Meeting the Criteria
Most people do not realize that most grants are geared toward a specific group, industry, trade or geographical
area. There are certain areas that are economically more depressed than others, these areas are considered Hub zones, and many small
businesses will meet the criteria of a grant simply by being located in one of these Hub zones.
The main goal of any grant application should be that it is an application that is built around meeting the
criteria. For instance if the small business is located in one of the many Hub zones that may be the only criterion that has to be met for
a specific grant. In some cases the criteria for the grant is that the business is minority owned. Some grants are geared toward certain
under represented industry or trade. There are often grants that are geared toward day cares or other service industries that not only
serve the business but bring a much needed service to the community.
The idea is that a small business should not apply for a grant that they are not qualified to receive. If the grant
is a Hub zone grant and the business is not within that Hub zone the business will definitely not get the grant. The very same small
business might not be eligible for the Hub zone grant but they may be able to get a grant based on their industry.
A small business would be well served by finding the grants that they are well eligible for before applying for the
grant.
Time Lines
There are usually very specific time lines for applying for a government small business grant. Following the time
lines for submission is an important aspect of a successful application. A late application probably will not be accepted.
When there is a deadline to turn in information, if it is not met than the application will probably not be
accepted. Following directions is one of the most important things that can be done when applying for grants. Supplying all the information
that is requested no matter how simplistic it may seem is the only way that an application can make it through the process.
A government small business grant can keep a business a float so
that it can make it through a rough patch, so that it can expand and in some cases start up.
